13-month, 1.67% CD at Start Community Bank

Start Community Bank has a very competitive short-term CD available: a 13-month CD that’s yielding 1.67% APY. This CD has a minimum deposit of $500 and is also available as an IRA CD. Start Community also has a promo rate on their “Fast Start Savings” account: also 1.67% APY. This account has only a $20 minimum to earn interest, and the promo rate is guaranteed through June 30th of this year. That said, their normal savings account is only yielding at best 0.30%, so expect that rate to drop dramatically on July 1st.

Start Community Bank has two branches, both in New Haven: 258 Grand Ave. and 299 Whalley Ave.

1.11% 3/6-month, 1.16% 1-year CDs at CSE Credit Union

CSE (Connecticut State Employees) Credit Union has a number of competitive short term CDs available. Their 3-month and 6-month CDs are yielding 1.11% APY, and their 1-year CDs are returning 1.16% APY. The certificates have a minimum deposit of $500. Those CDs aren’t available as IRA CDs, but CSE Credit Union does have an 18-month IRA CD returning 1.31% APY and a 3-year CD that yields 1.66% APY, both with a $500 minimum.

CSE Credit Union is primarily open to employees of the State of Connecticut. CSE CU has seven locations, all in Connecticut: one branch each in Hartford, Middletown, Norwich, Newington, Southbury, Storrs, and Woodbridge.

CD rates up to 3.00% at Capital One Bank

Capital One Bank has a few competitive rates available: Their 2-year CD is yielding 2.25%, their 3-year and 4-year CDs are yielding 2.50% APY, and their 5-year CD is yielding 3.00% APY.  These CDs have a minimum of $5000.

Capital One Bank has over 700 branches, although only one in Connecticut: 45 S. Main St. in Branford.

CDs up to 3.40% at New Alliance Bank

New Alliance Bank has a few competitive CDs available:

  • 20-month CD: 2.40% APY
  • 36-month CD: 3.40% APY
  • 48-month CD: 3.40% APY

These CDs all have a minimum deposit of $1000 to open.

9-month, 4.04% CD at First New England FCU

First New England Federal Credit Union has a competitive 9-month CD they’re offering: This short-term CD is yielding 4.04% APY. To get this rate, you must have an “Advantage” account with First New England FCU; otherwise, the rate drops 0.25%. This CD has a minimum of $10,000. First New England FCU is also offering an 18-month CD at 3.78% APY with the same “Advantage” and minimum deposit requirements.

First New England Federal Credit Union is open to residents of Vernon, as well as a number of employer and association groups. In addition, anyone can join the credit union by paying $12 ($7 for those age 60 and older) and joining the Friends of the Lucy Robbins Welles Library.

First New England FCU has three branches, all in Connecticut: East Hartford, Newington, and Vernon.

18-month, 4.00% CD at Connecticut Community Bank

Connecticut Community Bank has a competitive CD available for 18 months: 4.00% APY.  This CD has a minimum deposit of $500.  The CD is also available as an IRA CD with the same minimum.

Connecticut Community Bank has 9 branches under 5 different names.  Four branches are called Greenwich Bank & Trust (three in Greenwich and one in Riverside), two branches are called Westport National Bank (one each in Westport and Fairfield) and one branch each are called Darien Bank & Trust, Norwalk Bank & Trust, and  Stamford Bank & Trust, each located in their eponymous town.

CDs up to 5.25% at Capital One Bank

Capital One Bank has a number of high CDs available right now:

  • 14-month CD: 4.00% APY
  • 24-month CD: 4.50% APY
  • 60-month CD: 5.25% APY

All three of these CDs have a minimum of $500 and maximum of $1,000,000.  This is only available at Capital One branches in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.  These rates don’t seem to be listed at Capital One’s website, but you can see an ad for them here.

CDs up to 4.50% at Connex Credit Union

Connex Credit Union has a number of very competitive CD rates:

  • 6-month CD: 4.00% APY
  • 16-month CD: 4.25% APY
  • 26-month CD: 4.50% APY

These rates require that you have Connex CU’s Your Choice Checking Account; if you don’t have an account (or open one), the rates will be 0.25% lower.  Your Choice Checking does require direct deposit or a $5/month fee will be charged.  These CDs have a minimum deposit of $500 and a maximum deposit of $500,000.

Membership in Connex Credit Union is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Hartford County, Middlesex County, or New Haven County.  Connex CU has eight locations: three in New Haven, and one each in East Hartford, Guilford, Hamden, Orange, and Wallingford.
